Who am I and why admireMadaSurf?
Following my girlfriend on her expat experience I was granted a year of absence from my engineering job in Oslo, Norway. As a SURFER* I knew that Madagascar had some good conditions by reading some rare magazine story but that was basically it. After searching the Internet, even though finding some very informative websites like http://www.travelmadagascar.org/ , I could not really get a good grip of where and how the surf was, accessibility, logistics, shark situation etc. The only way was to find out for myself and that discovery will partly be documented on this website.
I have now been here since September 2012, experiencing and enjoying Madagascar and its surf. During my stay here the idea of making this website has grown gradually, mainly driven by following reasons :
· Madagascar, this beautiful island with its beautiful people, deserves tourist visitors while tourists, who are ready for a real adventure, deserve Madagascar.
· These waves deserve surfers and I know that there are many good surfing souls out there that deserve these waves!
· Surfing alone is a very cool experience that few people are lucky to enjoy. Still, sharing is caring, and indeed sharing waves is a beautiful thing. Simply, I'd appreciate some people in the water with me!

Me as SURFER*
Since I am giving my opinion on Mada Surf I think it is important to describe my surfing experience and approach to surf. I started surfing in 2005 while visiting the surfing Mecca, Hawaii. Since then I have spent ca 30 days per year surfing. I have never really lived close to any surf so all my surfing has been done in combination with traveling ; I am a traveling surfer. During the years I have surfed Indonesia (Bali, Lombok, Sumbawa), Morocco, Portugal, Ghana, New Zealand, Gran Canaria, Norway. I have seen and surfed some great spots, in both good and bad conditions. I have experienced flat days. I have met a lot of surfers, listened to their stories and shared mine. As a beginner I have experienced the "pain of the lineup", the big crowds and the days where you are just happy to get a single wave. I have climbed the learning curve and I have gone through declines. I have smiled a lot, enjoyed, but also had my mojo stolen by the sea. I have surfed with friends and I have surfed with strangers. I have experienced localism but also been welcomed and guided.
With all this taken into account, as a traveling surfer I just appreciate coming to a place that makes me excited and curious but where I truly feel relaxed within. Add a surfable wave, rather consistent than great so I get my two sessions a day where I will be able to play and let my brain surf away. These are my surfing values and with them in mind, I warmly recommend Madagascar.
