Location
Just 25 km north of Tulear following a track (that is actually a national route) you will find Ifaty and Mangily, two villages that have grown into one. Used to be (and still are) fishing villages, tourism has arrived as the big Ifaty lagoon has some really nice beaches. Luckly, it would not be a lagoon if it was not sheltered by a reef.
Surf/Spot description
The southern pass of Ifaty reef has two known spots, waves that Jeremy Flores used to surf as a kid while his dad was managing a hotel in Ifaty. This reef is also known for picking up most swell in Tulear area but it is also the one that is most further out of the beach. With a lot of swell things can get rough as well, strong currents etc.
Mahruhaju – A nice righthander on the north side of the pass. This is a low tide wave, can work up to mid tide if enough swell. East wind is offshore, can handle a bit of SE.
Beakiu – 1 km south of Mahruhaju you will find this barreling left. A high tide wave that needs bigger swells.
For Pirog and surf guide services look up Lunga (0328112847, [email protected]), a local that is fluent in English. Stefan, the owner of Princesse du Lagon is another good guy to see for a surf chat and tips. If he is not too busy he will probably join you for a surf.

Accomodation
Several hotels/bungalows in different price ranges and standards. On the beach you will find the chic Princesse du Lagon which is a good spot to stay if you have a non surfing partner treaveling with you and want to enjoy some really proffesional service.
